The Residence at Salem Woods new Admissions and Marketing Director - Tanna Wheeler
Outside of her passion for healthcare, Tanna is a car enthusiast traveling all around the states to participate in car shows and benefits. She shares this passion with the residents by talking to them about the history of the cars they once had. Tanna also loves going to Kings Island on her days off or even after work.
"I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field at age ten when I saw my first candy striper at a nursing home in Erin, Tennessee. From that day on, I knew I didn't want to do anything else but that. After graduating from college in business, I wanted to open my own nursing home with a daycare attached for single moms and dads. As life went on, I enjoyed working on the floor, giving my deepest care and compassion.
In 2013, after a bad car accident, I was told I’d never walk again, let alone work on the floor. After three years of therapy and determination, I was able to work on the floor again and revisit my career goals. I went back to work as a resident advocate but felt like something was missing. I took a break and continued getting my education in pharmacy technician, phlebotomy, medical records and human resources. After accomplishing all of this, I still did not have the passion and drive I was looking for.
When Covid hit, that’s when my passion sparked back up. I said I have to be in the middle of this, helping as many people as possible. Four weeks into the height of the pandemic, I pursued getting my nursing license after 21 months of schooling. After a long haul, six weeks before my graduation, my school lost all its accreditation. Crushed, I decided I was ready to go back into an office setting where I still had one-on-one interactions with the residents. That’s when I found Residence at Salem Woods."
Everyone at Salem Woods is so excited for Tanna to take on this new role. Be sure to give her a warm welcome when you see her in our halls!
